More Info on the Nigerian Student Killed in Ghana...

    You all remember the sad at tale of 18-year-old Nigerian boy Godwin Awogbo, who was a 300 level student of University of Cape Coast in Central region, Ghana, who i told you all some time ago was murdered, burnt and dumped by the road side? (See the story HERE). Well more of the story has been unravelled, as his father Mr Fred Awogbo has revealed what may have caused his murder! Here is what Mr Awogbo told Tribune;

"We arrived at the Nigerian High Commission and with some of the staff of the High Commission, we went to meet the Vice Chancellor. The meeting was also witnessed by the Police and all Nigerian community leaders in Ghana. At the meeting, the management asked some of his friends and roommate to say what they knew about his death. Meanwhile, while I was in Nigeria, I spoke with his roommate, a Ghanaian, who told me that my son had withdrawn some thousands of dollars meant for his school fees, but had lent the money to some students. When he requested them to pay back, they started threatening his life. It was after the threats that he heard about his death.

“Unfortunately, after everyone of them had spoken, not even the roommate mentioned the issue of those my son lent some money and how they threatened him. So, I told the school authority and the police right there to ask him to tell them how my son was threatened. It was when he started talking that we realised he (the room mate) was the one who borrowed about $4,500 from my son, thereby denying my son the opportunity of paying his school fees on time. When my late son started worrying him, he set him up. So, after the police took my statement, they promised to arrest him.”“My son was brought up in the church. When he was still in secondary school, he was being addressed as ‘Dr Pastor’ because he was active in church”. Appreciating the efforts of the Nigerian High Commission, Mr Awogbo said “The Nigeria High Commission in Ghana really surprised us with the amount of effort they have put into this case. They have promised to make sure the killer is brought to book.

Honestly, I regret sending my child to study in Ghana, because if he had gained admission into higher institution in Nigeria, this would not have happened. The reason I sent him to Ghana was to avoid the issue of strike action in Nigerian higher institutions. Even his mother and proprietor wanted him to go to Canada to further his studies. They really persuaded me but I said ‘No’, because I didn’t want to lose my boy.

I have been traveling to Europe for more than 20 years and I know what happens in such developed countries. At a tender age, I thought if I sent him there, I might lose him; he might not even want to come back home.So I decided that after he’s through with his degree, he would go and do his Masters in Canada, but here we are.As for now, I cannot advise any Nigerian parent to send their children to study in Ghana; a lot of them studying here are teenagers and the stress is too much for them. Coming here myself has made me know that, in addition is the fact that the money we are paying is too much, compared to what private universities are charging in Nigeria.”

*So heart breaking... killing him for the good deed hed did? People are heartless!

You all remember Jodie, the "Kuchi Kuchi" crooner? Well she opened up to my pals at the Netng on why she ain't currently dating anyone and her choice of keeping her viirginity! Jodie said;

"I am not in any relationship and I don't think I want to be. I want serious people around me. Not just sexual relationships.Personally, to me, it is wrong because I am not married. I am not condemning those who do it; this is just my personal opinion. I really should not have an opinion on sex because I don't have any experience. Sex means nothing to me, so I can't get into a relationship just because of that"

This is a testimony and i would want all young people to read and wisen up!
I met Mr X during my first job here in ABJ. We clicked and began dating. In the space of a few weeks, i took in for him. Mr X had me abort it 'cos we were both not ready for children. In the space of 3 years since we began dating in 2010, i took in for him twice and aborted one, while i miscarried the other.
We seperated for about three months in early '13, but reunited that same year, and i got pregnant again. My man, wedded me and did all the necessary ceremony to certify me his wife!
My lesson here, is if na your man he go come back, forget all the abortions or bad name they have labelled.
As i look at my son, nothing gives me greater joy than knowing i'm a fulfilled woman!

Corp Member Gets N100,000 for Losing His Leg During Service!

$

Saw this on Punch Newspaper and decided to share with you'll.
A former corps member, Emmanuel Unogu, has been offered N100,000 by the National Youth Service Corps for the loss of his right leg during the service year
Unogu, who served with the Urueffong/Oruka Local Government, Akwa Ibom State in 2008, was involved in an auto accident, which later led to the loss of his leg.
It was reported on April 18, 2013 that Unogu was involved in the accident while on his way to Oron on October 26, 2008.
Although the state's NYSC authorities were said to have been aware of the accident, Unogu allegedly did not receive proper medical attention.
By the time he contacted his father who took him to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Imo State, Unogu's broken leg had been infected with gangrene. The leg was later amputated due to the infection.
It was learnt that the NYSC eventually called the former corps member in February 2014 to intimate him of the organisation's plan.
Unogu said, "After my lawyer had written many times to the NYSC, I got a call from them for the first time last month. A woman from the NYSC office Abuja told me that she wanted to confirm my identity. She told me that I would be paid N100,000 as compensation.
"Another person called me three weeks later to say that a cheque of N100,000 was being prepared and asked me for an account number that it would be paid into.
"Last week, another man called again. He said I should expect the cheque this week. I asked the man what the cheque was for; was the NYSC paying for the amputation of my leg or was the money meant to acquire a prosthetic leg?
"When I began to question the man, he had no reply. He just sympathised with me and asked me to take heart."
In response to Unogu's enquiries in 2008, the London Prosthetic Center had sent an estimate of £4,000 for a prosthetic leg, excluding transport.
Unogu's lawyer, Mr. Benjamin Odeh, said that copies of the correspondence with the prosthetic hospital were attached to the letters sent to the NYSC office in Abuja concerning Unogu.
Already, the Akwa Ibom secretariat of the NYSC was said to have given N290,000 to Unogu as a refund on the amount he incurred as medical expenses while on admission at the FMC, Owerri.
Unogu said, "I was told by the NYSC, Akwa Ibom, after they refunded my medical expenses, that the rest was left for Abuja. But from the look of things, I don't think the NYSC national secratariat is going to do anything reasonable. What I need now is the funds to get a prosthetic leg so I can live a normal life."
Odeh expressed his disappointment at the N100, 000 that was offered as compensation to the former corps member.
He said, "It is unthinkable that a youth that was compulsorily enrolled to serve his country and lost his limb in the process, is being offered N100,000.
"What exactly is the money for? Is Unogu being paid for the amputation? As it is, we intend to file a suit against the Federal Government. The Attorney General of the Federation and the NYSC will be joined in the suit for the injustice Unogu has suffered."
When the Assistant Director, Press, of the NYSC, Mr. Edie, was contacted, he said, "Has the person been paid? If he has not, then there is not much I can say. However, I am currently away from Abuja; I will be back next week. By then, I will be able to give you an informed response."

"Abortion After Rape is a Double Sin" - Prophet T.B. Joshua

This is countering what pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy said a few weeks ago concerning how abortion after rape isn't a sin! Prophet T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church of all Nations told a member of his congregation during a question and answer section on his official Facebook page that abortion after rape, is not just a sin, but a double sin! The prophet said;

"Committing an abortion when you are raped is a double sin. ...God often uses foolish things to express Himself. Many great people and heroes today are products of this background. In any way, in any circumstance you find yourself in today as you are reading this note, you have not committed any unpardonable sin. Run to Jesus; don't run from Him in whatever situation you find yourself." #AskTBJoshua"

"I never said that Olu Jacobs should not play Igwe" - Pete Edochie

$

Is it true you were against Olu Jacobs acting as Igwe in Nollywood movies?

First of all, I didn't say that. The people who direct those movies with Olu are not fair to him because they are not grounded in the culture; therefore they make him do the wrong things. People just want to destroy my friendship with Olu Jacobs. I never said that a Yoruba man should not play Igwe.
The last time I saw Olu in Asaba, I got down from the car and we hugged and tears came to our eyes and Olu said to me, 'Pete, our colleagues are going.' This was after Esiri died. Even as I am saying this now, it affects me. Olu has been my friend for God-knows-how-many-years. I was born and raised in the North. Olu had some orientation in Kano; he speaks Hausa. There are jokes that are peculiar only to two of us. The press sometimes likes to sensationalise what makes little or no sense. Sometimes they even argue about Pete Edochie earning more than Olu. These people are crazy. The people who direct most of the cultural films that feature Olu are not competent to direct him. Olu is an accomplished actor.
What the director tells you is what you do. Number one, in our own culture, you don't hold the horse whip like they do in Yoruba land. Yoruba people hold it at the head while we Igbos hold it at the middle because we use that head for shaking hands. When Olu plays Igwe, they don't tell him that, so he holds it like a Yoruba man – which is wrong. Number two, if you are addressing your cabinet, you do not stand up and talk to them. As the Igwe, you sit down on the throne. Go and watch me play the Igwe; I am in perfect control. People don't shout or haggle when I play the Igwe.
Number three, you do not leave the palace to go out and consult the native doctor as the Igwe. No; the native doctor is one of your subjects; you summon him to the palace to do his divination. These youngsters who direct Olu don't know these things. So, when people watch these things, they come to me and say how can you be there and this man is killing our culture, and I tell them that it is not his fault. It is the fault of those who are directing him and they don't know these things. Please, I want you to emphasise this because someone also told me he read it on the Internet that I said Yoruba men shouldn't play Igwe. Why are we acting? I went to the North where I played Emir in a production. Olu speaks Hausa and he also did a production where he played a Hausa man. This is why we are actors for God's sake. To credit me with that kind of statement is being unfair to me and my status. They want to knock heads so we will be at daggers drawn when we've been friends for over how many years. That's nonsense.

Have you ever discussed it with him?

It's not necessary; I don't consider it a topic. People just wake up and cook up stories. Look, I was sitting in my house and someone phoned me that he just read on the Internet that I fell from a height of 50ft while shooting a film in Austria. People kept phoning my children here and there. But Pete Edochie doesn't enter any airplane. I don't fly.

You have a phobia for flying? What was the experience behind it?

Yes I do (have a phobia for flying). I went to Egypt in 1975, we flew out from Kano and we flew for hours until we got to the Sahara desert, and it was sand all through. Someone who was sitting next to me said "Eh, so if something happens to this plane and it crashes, nobody will know where we are." From that moment, I developed that phobia. I am also claustrophobic. If you put me inside this house now, I won't be able to stay. I was stuck in a lift once and it was a very harrowing experience. Also, if I stand on the ground and look at a very tall building, my head would begin to swing. I don't like heights at all.

The comic duo of Aki & Pawpaw whose real names are Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme respectively, have been selected as part of those who are going to headline the entertainment personalities that will be cheering on the Super Eagles during the much anticipated FIFA World Cup in Brazil this year.
The National assembly together with the Nigerian Football Federation would also be naming eight other celebs to join the "bandwagon of cheerers" in the comming days. These selected individuals (totaling ten) would share the $800,000, released by the Federal Government and would have their flight and hotel accomodation also taken care of by the FG.

Gist around town tho, is that several of these celebs are trying to outdo themselves to get this much desired slot to Brazil. I heard from a lady who knows "whats up" that several of her colleagues and her inclusive are trying to use their "long legs" in government to get chosen to cheer for Nigeria at the worldcup! In her own words;

"part of that $800k would do alot for my career. Besides one needs a change of environment once in a while."

An Open Leter from the Unemployed Nigerian Youth to Mr President

Our dear president, we write this letter to you with great passion, and in a state of curiosity and concern.
We understand your zeal as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to invest in the next generation of the country’s youths by presenting a budget that contains reasonable projects that are aimed at tackling the far-reaching malady of UNEMPLOYMENT in our beloved country, Nigeria.
But, it is so unfortunate that the unemployed graduates of Nigerian institutions of higher learning have no representatives at the ongoing National Conference. Having read the modalities of the National Conference and the components involved, we are convinced without prejudice or doubt, that our children would blame us if we fail to inform you, Mr. President, of the mockery of the committee as a result of misplaced priorities.
Mr. President Sir, the only common element which costs less, and can solve the myriad of problems faced by most Nigerians is EMPLOYMENT.
Unemployment is a big challenge in Nigeria, which over the years has represented a lost opportunity for national economic development. With the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) putting the current rate of unemployed Nigerians at 23.9 per cent, up from 21.1 per cent in 2010 and 19.7 per cent in 2009, the rising unemployment rate in Nigeria has in no small measure contributed to the continuous rise in social vices like terrorism, political thuggery, violence and even teenage pregnancies among youths in many parts of the country.
In view of these, the Association of Nigerian Graduates against Unemployment, an association of well cultured youths and intellectuals, was formed. We represent the frustrated and angry youths in the society, forced to act after going through the 492 political selections for the National Conference and noticing the deafening silence concerning unemployment and the unemployed.
We are happy you know, according to statements credited to you, that Nigerians are already talking about their national challenges through the print, electronic and social media and this is how we intend to make our voices heard.
The political selections will only give the same answers and report only what they feel you would be comfortable hearing. The truth, Mr. President, is far from comfortable. What affects us is UNEMPLOYMENT, and we want you to take a critical look at the following issues:
1. Contract Staffing – This is in fact one of the biggest problems hindering graduates from getting jobs. Most of those assumed to be workers in most industries, firms and companies are in fact, not permanent staff. They are all under-employed and are also competing with fresh graduates for any available vacancy.
2. Age limit as a prerequisite for employment opportunities.
3. The issue of years of experience by several government ministries and parastatals.
4. Employment not being on merit.
5. Provision of social welfare for all unemployed graduates and more for the physically challenged graduates. (Return to the quota for each firm to employ, as a percentage of their total workforce, a specific percentage of physically challenged graduates)
Mr. President, from the various statistics we have from the National Bureau of Statistics, and other sources, the number of unemployed citizens ranges from 30 to 45 million, and that is about the population of five major cities in Nigeria. An average of 4.5 million graduates enter into the job market annually with no access to soft loans or any type of enabling environment coupled with epileptic power supply, even after the privatization of PHCN.
The “YouWin” programme is more like and very similar to the visa lottery game, where only lucky winners are empowered and only the families of public office holders and those in government get the little available jobs. We are citizens and should also be given access to enjoy social facilities like those in government e.g. NHIS scheme. We are products of our society and we want to be treated equally like those in government.
We passed through various challenges and delays in school such as ASUU strikes, late school enrolment due to poverty and/or ignorance, bureaucratic arrangement in government, unfortunate policies and administrative problems.
Mr. President, we live in a country where people now sell jobs. Everyone had hitherto been quiet about this completely unacceptable and despicable act and it must be looked into. We are human capital, and this is by far, the greatest asset any country can have. We are worth more than the oil in the South-South or the pepper from the North. We cannot afford to sit down and watch ourselves waste away anymore.
Our dear president, we commend you for what has been done so far in addressing the issue of unemployment such as NDE, YouWin and others, but we are asking that you help us to help this nation and youth restiveness caused by unemployment by empowering us.
We are tired of running out of our fatherland to foreign countries and yet treated and addressed as third class citizens through Visa bonding and the rest, when our country is blessed.
The stakes are high now and we are using this opportunity to address the polity that this association is not a political movement or a violent sect. We are a pressure group crying out in splinters but with one voice for our needs in our country ,Nigeria. We denounce and disassociate ourselves from the methodologies of some home based terror groups/sects in the Northern part of Nigeria that have adopted violence and are unleashing carnage on the society in fighting their cause. However, it should not be forgotten that the problems of these Home Terror groups in the North started when their needs were not met, and with lots of anomalies in their society. Now it’s spiraling and all nations are called to join in securing the region. All we are saying is listen to our cries now and not when things go bad. We are accessible and open for discussions on how to forge ahead in addressing the problems of unemployment with your support.
Mr. President Sir, ignoring the points raised here can have unpleasant consequences. We implore you to urgently address these points to halt the steadily growing number of angry and frustrated unemployed graduates who may be tempted to channel their knowledge and energy into negativities. God bless you, sir, as we await your speedy response and God bless Nigeria
By Ehis Abuya (National Coordinator, Association of Unemployed Graduates).

Armed Robbers Storm a Church during Night Vigil Stealing about 2 Million Naira!

Armed robbers numbering about 15 invaded the Christ Apostolic Church in Alagbado, Lagos State, stealing about 40 phones and money estimated at N2m.About 450 members of congregation were engrossed in prayer when they struck. The robbers, who operated for about 20 minutes, were said to have also attempted raping some of the church members before they left the church premises.
A member of the church, who craved anonymity, said some of the members had observed a strange man making phone calls while the vigil was on.
He said,
"The vigil actually started around 12 midnight. Some of us observed a man who came in around 1.30am. He was seated in the women's section. About four persons tried persuading him to change seat, including the pastor, but he refused. So they left him.
"I observed him going out several times to make phone calls. At about 2am, I overheard him saying, 'start coming, they are praying'. Few minutes later, I heard a gunshot."The head usher of the church was said to have been shot at close range, when he tried closing the door against the robbers, who he originally thought were arriving late for the programme. The bullet was said to have shattered the glass at the entrance, and landed on the pulpit.
When the gun men got in, the church members were said to have been ordered to lie face down, while they started ransacking them. One of the church leaders said,
"They positioned themselves at the church's major entrances. They collected money, phones and recharge cards. They started shouting, 'where is your pastor?' They took the church offering and wanted to rape some of our women. In the 20 years of my being in the ministry, I have never seen such effrontery before." The pastor was said to have sneaked out through the exit and dodged behind a window, where he viewed everything going on.
